Reminder to Change Your Clocks; Daylight Saving Time to Begin March 9

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded that the province has adopted extended Daylight Saving Time which comes into effect this weekend. Clocks should be moved ahead by one hour as of 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, with the change to remain in effect until Sunday, November 2, 2008.

"This is a reminder for residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to make the appropriate adjustments to their clocks, and other technology products to reflect the time change," said the Honourable Dave Denine, Minister of Municipal Affairs.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced a change in January 2007 to extend Daylight Saving Time and ensure the daylight saving time pattern is consistent with other Canadian provinces and the United States. The move provides an additional one month of extended daylight to the province.

"As Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency services, I would also like to encourage the replacement of batteries in smoke detectors and safety devices to ensure that they are in good working order," added Minister Denine. "This is a good opportunity to perform regular maintenance on fire and safety items to help protect persons and property in the event of a fire or life-threatening situation."
