Media Advisory: Province to Transfer Land to
Labrador Inuit Communities of Nunatsiavut Government

The Honourable Patty Pottle, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland Labrador, will transfer freehold title to Provincial Crown land in the Inuit communities of Nain, Postville, Makkovik and Rigolet to the respective Inuit Community Governments in a ceremony at the Department of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Wednesday, February 6, at 10:00 a.m. Minister Pottle will be joined by Tony Andersen, acting president of Nunatsiavut Government, AngajukKaks (mayors) and town managers of the Labrador Inuit communities.

On December 1, 2005, the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement (LILCA) was enacted to form the Nunatsiavut Government.
