Western Newfoundland Hotel to Boost Marketing Efforts to Attract Tourists

Ocean Investments, operator of Ocean View Hotel, has received $17,050 from the Provincial Government to implement new marketing initiatives. Its new marketing strategy will include the introduction of a new brand and online strategy, along with enabling increased trade show participation.

"A strong brand and outreach strategy is critical in todays competitive marketplace," said the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. "As Ocean View Hotel seeks to attract visitors and position itself as a destination for conferences, it is imperative that it be able to stand out at national and international trade events. By advancing its profile, its success will ultimately create new opportunities within the local tourism market."

Located in the heart of internationally-celebrated Gros Morne National Park, Ocean View Hotel is well-positioned for growth. To capitalize on this growth, hotel operators will also incorporate an online strategy to attract enthusiasts seeking an authentic and quality vacation experience.

"As part of our re-branding, which includes new collateral materials and online marketing, we are encouraging visitors to experience quality hotel accommodations," said Todd Wight, Managing Partner, Ocean Investments. "We believe that these initial steps, together with other initiatives we have planned, will attract visitors to the western region of the province."

Ocean View Hotel has 52 rooms, a full service restaurant that seats 100 people, and three conference rooms.

"Ocean View Hotel was built in 1970 and since then has helped attract tourists to the Gros Morne region and the whole Viking Trail," said Wallace Young, MHA, St. Barbe. "The Gros Morne region receives more than 150,000 visitors each year and Ocean Views proposed marketing campaign will help attract more visitors to this beautiful area."

Funding was provided through the Business and Market Development Program (BMDP). BMDP provides new entrepreneurs and expanding small businesses with matching funding to help them acquire the necessary expertise to pursue new business ideas and markets. The $1 million program is intended to support new growth opportunities in the economy, such as value-added manufacturing activities and export-oriented opportunities.
