Kilbride Food Manufacturer to Export Snacks to Atlantic Canada

Funn Food Factory Inc., a Kilbride-based snack food manufacturer, is receiving $25,000 from the Provincial Government to help access the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick markets.

"Funn Food Factory, operating under the name Winsor Snacks, is a familiar brand to many in the province," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. "As most business people are aware, exporting is essential to the growth of their operations. I am pleased that Funn Food Factory is expanding its reach into the Maritime Provinces and that the Provincial Government is able to support them in their efforts."

Funn Food Factory is owned and operated by Adrian and Marsha Murphy. The company is a wholesale bakery specializing in the production of snack foods such as apple pies, subs, wraps, cookies, burgers, and its most popular product, apple flips. The company sells directly to supermarkets, convenience stores, specialty stores and wholesale distributors.

"We have an opportunity to sell to a major food retailer outside the province which requires that we undertake a lot of preparatory work including hiring an independent sampling firm and designing new packaging," said Mr. Murphy. "The Provincial Government has proved very helpful in pursuing this opportunity."

"For 30 years Funn Food Factory has produced popular food products and made a positive contribution to our local economy," said John Dinn, MHA for Kilbride. "It is great to see a local company expand outside of its natural borders and target new markets."

Funding was provided through the Business and Market Development Program (BMDP). BMDP provides new entrepreneurs and expanding small businesses with matching funding to help them acquire the necessary expertise to pursue new business ideas and markets. The $1 million program is intended to support new growth opportunities in the economy, such as value-added manufacturing activities and export-oriented opportunities.
