Hi-Point Industries Expands Reach into United States

The Provincial Government is assisting Hi-Point Industries with a $25,000 investment that will enable the company to market its peat-based oil absorbents in the United States.

"Already an industry-leader with exports that span the globe, Hi-Point Industries is now targeting the United States the worlds largest market for oil absorbents valued at US$200 million," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. "Exporting is essential to the success of the provinces business community. Recognizing this importance, the Provincial Government is pleased to support Hi-Point Industries target new export opportunities in the key American market."

The company currently exports its products to Europe, South America, Africa, Mexico, and Canada. Building off its success in these markets, the companys marketing campaign will include direct mail and customer calls, along with a revised website, advertising, and participating in trade shows.

"Hi-Point has grown from a company with one product to a company that offers a full-range of environmental and horticultural products," said Bill Butler, President of Hi-Point Industries. "Diversifying our product line has enabled us to best deliver on our objective of selling the province one bag at a time throughout our distribution network that encompasses more than 25 countries."

Located in Bishops Falls, Hi-Point Industries manufactures oil absorbent, containment products, bulk horticultural peat, and blended soils. It operates three production facilities two in Bishops Falls and one in Corner Brook and employs upwards of 30 individuals on a seasonal basis.

"I am so pleased that Hi-Point Industries will benefit from this funding," said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. "This clearly demonstrates the Provincial Government's commitment to our rural communities and support of business development and opportunities throughout our province."

Funding was provided through the Business and Market Development Program (BMDP). BMDP provides new entrepreneurs and expanding small businesses with matching funding to help them acquire the necessary expertise to pursue new business ideas and markets. The $1 million program is intended to support new growth opportunities in the economy, such as value-added manufacturing activities and export-oriented opportunities.
