Website Launched for Youth Strategy

A new website is now online, focused on the Government of Newfoundland and Labradors development of a provincial Youth Retention and Attraction Strategy. The website is designed to promote the intent and development of the strategy and to provide an opportunity for all youth, residents and stakeholders across the province to have input into its development. To access the website go to www.youth.gov.nl.ca.

"We recently completed 13 successful dialogue sessions across the province, in Alberta and Ontario, and held a provincial youth summit with young Newfoundlanders and Labradorians," said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. "Now, it is important that we move into the next phase and encourage a wider-scope of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to contribute to the development of the strategy."

On the website, users will find an online survey that they can access and complete. The information provided through the online survey will be gathered and used to help inform the development of the strategy. The public is also encouraged to mail, call or e-mail their opinions and feedback. E-mail submissions can be sent to youth@gov.nl.ca; call 709-729-1632 or address mail to: Manager, Youth Retention and Attraction Strategy, Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, P.O. Box 8700, St. Johns, NL, A1B 4J6.

"It is important that youth, the public, community and business leaders provide their input into the strategy," said Minister Sullivan. "Their feedback will help our government put in place the plans we need to help retain and attract our youth and make Newfoundland and Labrador their province of choice when planning their futures."

The website provides a convenient way for the public to learn more about the Provincial Governments commitment to develop a Youth Retention and Attraction Strategy, including information about current activities and who is involved in the strategy. This site also provides links to career and employment information for youth.

"As a government, we recognize the importance of gathering opinions and ideas from the public and sharing information on what we are trying to do to assist our youth build secure futures and reach their professional goals," said Minister Sullivan. "Our youth have amazing opportunities ahead of them and together we can develop a strategy that will build a prosperous future for our province and our youth."

In Budget 2008, government committed $1.38 million to develop a strategy to counter the negative impacts of youth out-migration, strengthen the labour market and support the economic development of the province.
