Media Advisory: Speakers to Address Violence Against Women
at Violence Prevention Conference

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and the Lead Minister for the Violence Prevention Initiative, will officially open the 3rd annual provincial Violence Prevention Initiative Stakeholders� Conference tomorrow (Tuesday, December 2) at 9:15 a.m. at the Holiday Inn in St. John�s. The event will take place in Salons B, C and D.

The agenda of the two-day conference, entitled Preventing Violence Against Women, includes the following events open to the media:

Tuesday, December 2

9:15 a.m.Violence Against Women in Newfoundland and Labrador � The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Deputy Premier, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, Minister of Natural Resources, Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency.

9:40 a.m.The War on Women - Brian Vallee, best-selling author of Life with Billy and War on Women. 

Wednesday, December 3

9:30 a.m. � It�s Almost Always MenLeslie MacLeod, President, Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women.

10:00 a.m. � Media availability in the lobby with Ms. MacLeod and representatives from partnering community organizations in the province.

1:00 p.m.Preventing Violence Against Aboriginal Women � Judy White of McDonald White Law Firm, which specializes in Aboriginal issues.
