East Coast Music Association Receives $225,000 in Support from Province

The East Coast Music Associations (ECMA) 2009 annual awards show, festival and conference, which recognizes and showcases some of Atlantics Canadas best musicians, today received a commitment totalling $225,000 from the Provincial Government.

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, said the Provincial Government is pleased to support the event, which will be held in Corner Brook from February 26 to March 1.

"This prestigious music industry event is not only about celebrating the exceptional talent of Atlantic Canadians, but also about furthering and supporting the East Coast music industry," said Premier Williams. "In 2009, Newfoundland and Labrador will be the backdrop for ECMA events and I have no doubt that our musicians will shine here at home as they share their talents with the rest of the country."

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, was on hand for an ECMA news conference in Corner Brook this morning, where participating sponsors were announced.

"We are pleased to be a sponsor for the ECMA event, which will benefit our musicians as well as cultural and tourism operators on the West Coast," said Minister Jackman. "Corner Brook has a great track record when it comes to hosting events, and I am sure the 2009 ECMAs will be no exception.";

Wade Pinhorn, Chair of the ECMA Board of Directors, said the board is working hard to ensure the upcoming Corner Brook event will be an outstanding one.

"The support from the Provincial Government has been there from the start, and its this kind of support that ensures the arts will have a long and prosperous life - not only in Newfoundland and Labrador but also throughout the region."

The East Coast Music Awards is an annual event which rotates throughout the Atlantic Provinces. Since their inception, the Conference and Awards Show has grown to become the premier music event in Atlantic Canada, and one of the top events of its kind on the continent.
