Public Service Award of Excellence Recipients Announced

The recipients of the Public Service Award of Excellence were recognized today (Monday, June 16) at a ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel in St. John's. The Award of Excellence was presented by the Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Gary Norris, Clerk of the Executive Council.

The individual award recipients are:

  • Eldred Barnes (Education)
  • Mary Ann Kavanagh (Innovation, Trade and Rural Development)
  • Christine Mclean (Health and Community Services)
  • Mac Pitcher (Environment and Conservation)
  • Tracy Slaney (Fisheries and Aquaculture).

Three teams were also recognized with the Public Service Award of Excellence. They are:

  • Family Justice Services Implementation Team (Justice). Team members � Bill Barron, Denise Hammond, Pamela Ryder Lahey, Donald Norman, Berkley Reynolds
  • Torbay Unit Maintenance Team (Transportation and Works). Team members � Scott Barrett, Charlie Crowe
  • Working Income Supplementation Unit Team (Human Resources, Labour and Employment). Team members � Angie Dober, Paula Farrell, Geoff Jackman, Myra Kelly, Mandy Mayo, Ann Power, Cynthia Power, Dean Shute, Darrell Riggs, Pamela Stewart

�On behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, I sincerely congratulate the individuals and teams who are being recognized with this year�s Public Service Award of Excellence,� said Premier Williams. �As this year�s Public Service Week theme says, we are shaping our future by recognizing excellence. There are many wonderful examples of excellence in public service that inspire all of us, and today we will celebrate that work. I want people throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to appreciate the calibre of the women and men who work to serve them, day in and day out, year after year.�

The Public Service Award of Excellence recognizes individuals and teams in the public service of Newfoundland and Labrador who have demonstrated exceptional work performance and have positively affected the quality of the work environment or the quality of service delivery to clients. The award recognizes overall achievement in areas of excellence such as service delivery, leadership, innovation and relationship building.

�Looking at the individuals and teams receiving the Public Service Award of Excellence today, we see the phenomenal work that is going on behind the scenes within our Provincial Government � work that is changing how government serves the citizens of our province in very tangible ways,� said Mr. Norris. �I congratulate all those recognized today with the Award of Excellence.�
