Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange Program 2008 Winner Announced Seventeen-year-old James Kellough of Grand Falls-Windsor is the Newfoundland and Labrador winner of the 2008 Atlantic Provinces Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange Program. The Atlantic Provinces Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange Program is endorsed by the Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. James was chosen from more than 250 youth who participated in Newfoundland and Labradors Firearms Safety Hunter Education Course or other sponsored hunter education events between July 2007 and June 2008. In the fall, James will travel with his uncle, Dave Kellough, to Nova Scotia to participate in a big game hunt sponsored by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers and Hunters. "I want to congratulate James and wish him and his uncle Dave a safe and enjoyable trip to Nova Scotia," said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation. "I am sure they will both create many wonderful memories during their big game hunt in Nova Scotia." The winner was drawn by Nova Scotia exchange winner, 14-year-old Zachary McGean, who was accompanied by his father, William McGean. Zachary and William visited central Newfoundland earlier this month and enjoyed a three-day fishing trip on the Victoria River. Accommodations were provided by Dave and Eileen Evans of Victoria Outfitters and Lodge. The minister noted that the program recognizes and highlights the importance of involving youth in all outdoor activities and the role youth play in helping to conserve wildlife for the future. "I encourage more of our youth to get involved in outdoor activities and take part in programs like the Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange Program," said Minister Johnson. Minister Johnson added her thanks to the volunteers and sponsors for their involvement and support of this very important initiative. This years sponsors include the Victoria Outfitters and Lodge, the Newfoundland and Labrador Outfitters Association, Newfoundland Sportsman Magazine, St. Johns Rod and Gun Club, Complete Gun Repairs, Barnes Sporting Goods and Newfoundland and Labrador Conservation Officers Association.
