Environment and Conservation April 18, 2008 Environmental Assessment Bulletin The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED: Central Regional Waste Management Transfer Stations Proponent: Central Waste Management Committee (Reg. 1376) The proposal is to develop seven local waste management facilities (LWMF) to service communities located in the central region of Newfoundland. Each LWMF will provide a permanent storage of construction and demolition materials and provide a temporary collection area for waste before it is transported to the Central Newfoundland Waste Facility (Registration 1335) for further recycling and separation of organics. The sites are located at the following locations:
There are location alternatives proposed for the New World Island-Twillingate and Fogo Island sites. This undertaking was registered on April 16, 2008; public comments are due by May 23, 2008; and, the minister's decision is due by May 31, 2008. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
