Conception Bay South Receives Over $1.2 Million for Road Improvements

The Williams Government continues to improve driving conditions with another investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program of Budget 2007. The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced $1.21 million for road improvements in the Conception Bay South area.

"The Provincial Government has invested significantly in the roads program which reinforces our commitment to improving transportation infrastructure throughout the province," said Minister Hickey. "Providing drivers with safe, reliable roads is a priority for this government and we will continue to ensure motorists have a quality driving experience."

Road improvement projects planned for the Conception Bay South area are:

  • Rehabilitating Manuels River Spillway Bridge West, Trans Canada Highway, which is carried over from the previous construction season;
  • Repairing rutting problem on the Trans Canada Highway, Foxtrap to Holyrood;
  • Resurfacing section of Route 60, Forest Road to Scotts Road, and west of ORourkes Road; and,
  • Replacing expansion joint at Kelligrews River Bridge.
  • "This funding is great news for motorists in my district," said Terry French, MHA for Conception Bay South. "The Conception Bay South area is continuously growing which means traffic volumes are also increasing. The announced upgrades will certainly provide travellers throughout the district with much better driving conditions."

    The Provincial Government estimates the Provincial Roads Improvement Program creates 1,200 person years of employment. This is the second year of the six-year strategy for infrastructure improvements exceeding $2 billion.
