$1 Million Announced for Road Improvements in Twillingate-Fogo

The Twillingate-Fogo area will benefit significantly from this years $66.5 million Provincial Roads Improvement Program of Budget 2007. The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced $1 million to enhance transportation infrastructure in the area.

Government has listened to concerns of residents in this area and have responded with this significant investment in road improvements, said Minister Hickey. We are committed to revitalizing rural Newfoundland and Labrador, and these construction projects will not only help improve our highway system but will create jobs and stimulate the local economy.

This year, the Provincial Government will resurface sections of Route 340 in the Twillingate-Fogo area. The projects planned are resurfacing a section from Rideout Building Supplies to Summerford intersection, a section between the Twillingate causeway and the town of Twillingate and sections near Indian Cove.

The Provincial Government estimates the Provincial Roads Improvement Program creates 1,200 person years of employment, with 94 per cent of the work being done in rural areas. This is the second year of the six-year strategy for infrastructure improvements exceeding $2 billion.
