$1.42 Million Headed for Gander Roads

Roads in Gander will receive an injection of $1.42 million, announced the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works, today.

"The investment the Williams government has made in our provinces roads is unparalleled," said Minister Hickey. "The Gander area is now the latest benefactor of this governments pledge to revitalize the transportation network and other infrastructure in Newfoundland and Labrador."

This investment is part of the $60 million Provincial Roads Improvement Program, announced prior to the budget for the second year in a row. The early approval of roads funding allows the tender process and construction to begin much earlier than usual.

The road improvement projects planned for Gander are:

  • Resurface section of Route 330, Gander Bay Highway;
  • Resurface section of Benton Road;
  • Add turning lane for Oglivie Street.
  • The Honourable Kevin OBrien, MHA for Gander said, "The safety and dependability of the road systems in my district is extremely important to residents who use the roads regularly, and to visitors of the region. I am extremely pleased with this infrastructure investment and confident motorists will notice a positive change once the improvements are completed."

    In addition to Provincial Roads Improvement funding, another $3 million will be spent on rehabilitation of the Trans Canada Highway, Gander toward Glenwood, in work carried over from last year as a part of the Canadian Strategic Infrastructure Fund (CSIF).
