Close to $2.5 Million Announced to Improve Roads in St. Barbe Area

Good news for the traveling public in the St. Barbe district. The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced an investment of $2.45 million for road improvements in the District of St. Barbe.

"Infrastructure investment is a top priority for this government," said Minister Hickey. "We are committed to investing in rural Newfoundland and Labrador and to providing the traveling public with a safe, reliable transportation network."

Government has once again given early approval of $60 million from the 2007-08 budget for the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This will enable the tendering process and the construction season to begin much earlier.

This year, government plans to upgrade and pave Route 430 from Hawkes Bay towards Port Saunders and resurface Route 430-28 towards Port aux Choix.

Wally Young, MHA for the St. Barbe district said: "I am very pleased with this years allocation of funding for my district. Improving the condition of Route 430 will not only provide our residents with safer roads, but will also entice visitors to our tourist destinations here on the Northern Peninsula."
