Provinces Tourism Web Site Nominated for National Award

Newfoundland and Labradors tourism marketing campaign has been nominated for another national award and Newfoundlanders and Labradorians both here and across Canada can help bring it home.

The Canadian e-tourism Council has named the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador one of three finalists for the Public Sector - Best Website Award for its tourism Web site
(www.newfoundlandlabrador.com), developed in collaboration with AppleCore Interactive, a Newfoundland and Labrador-based interactive marketing and communications agency. The award winner will be chosen, in part, through an online public vote.

"This particular award nomination recognizes one element of our tourism marketing campaign, the Newfoundland and Labrador tourism Web site," said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "We are very proud of the nomination, and I am encouraging Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to show their support for our growing tourism industry by voting online."

Votes can be registered at: //ctcawards.rtraction.com up until October 21, 2007. It is important to note the awards Web site requires participants to vote in all categories.

Over the past several weeks, the Newfoundland and Labrador tourism marketing campaign has won the Marketer of the Year award at the Atlantic advertising industry ICE Awards and has been named a finalist for the Tourism Industry Association of Canadas (TIAC) Marketing Campaign of the Year Award. The campaign is also featured on the cover of the October issue of Progress Magazine.

Meanwhile, Minister Hedderson extended congratulations to Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL), whose Iceberg Finder Web site ( www.IcebergFinder.com ) was nominated for a Large Private Sector Best Innovation Award. The Iceberg Finder Web site, launched in May 2006, is also supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, C-Core (Memorial University), and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The Canadian e-Tourism Council is an independent forum of leading Canadian travel and tourism leaders, marketing executives, and e-commerce experts, representing the various segments and verticals of the Canadian travel and tourism industry.

Winners of the Canadian e-Tourism Council awards will be announced during the Canada-e-Connect e-Tourism Strategy Conference, to be held November 8 in Vancouver. The conference is hosted by the Canadian Tourism Commission.
