Team Gushue Commemorative Print to be Displayed
in Newfoundland and Labrador Schools

A print commemorating the historic gold medal performance of Team Gushue at the 2006 Olympics will soon be featured in schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

"We must never forget what these athletes have accomplished," said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "This team made history at the Olympics. Not only were they the very first team chiefly based in this province to compete there, they brought home gold medals in a highly dramatic fashion. That win was a seminal moment in the history of sport in Newfoundland and Labrador and it is only fitting that we hold it up as an example to the youth of this province that through determination, hard work and sacrifice, our dreams can be realized."

A creation of artist Dave Hoddinott, the image portrays Brad Gushue, Jamie Korab, Mark Nichols and Russ Howard overlooking an image of the curling team as they took part in the final game of the 2006 Olympics. The province came to a virtual standstill during the gold medal final as most people watched the historic win.

The print also features an image of Mr. Gushue making the now-famous cell phone call to his mother to announce the victory. The print is just one of some 300 that will be distributed to schools throughout the province in the coming days.
