Media Advisory: Minister Hedderson to Address
Provincial Arts and Recreation Gatherings

Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister, the Honourable Tom Hedderson, will participate in an open forum at Recreation Newfoundland and Labradors annual general meeting Saturday, May 26, at Hotel Gander, from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Minister Hedderson will outline initiatives contained in the Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador, the provinces strategic plan for recreation and sport, plan unveiled today (May 25). The plan, which features $2.39 million in new funding under Budget 2007 for recreation and sport initiatives, demonstrates how recreation and sport are integral to the Provincial Governments broader goal of improving the health status and advancing the development of Newfoundland and Labrador.

On Saturday, May 26, Minister Hedderson, will speak at the 55th Annual Arts and Letters Awards taking place at The Rooms, St. Johns, beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The Provincial Arts and Letters Awards began in 1952 and have recognized some of Newfoundland and Labradors most talented and well-known artists. Since then, thousands of professional and amateur artists from every part of the province have expressed themselves creatively through participation in the program. This year almost 1,000 entries were submitted.
