New Fire Truck Presented to Town of Conception Bay South

The Conception Bay South Fire Department has been presented with a $300,000 fire response vehicle to enhance fire protection services for residents of the Town of Conception Bay South and surrounding area. The Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, made the presentation last evening at the Kelligrews Fire Hall. The truck was made available through the 2005-08 Multi-Year Capital Works Program.

"I am proud to have presented a new pumper truck to the Town of Conception Bay South as a continuation of governments investment in fire services throughout the province," said Minister Byrne. "The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador recognizes that modern equipment will provide enhanced fire protection services which will help save lives and lessen the damage to homes and businesses, caused by fire."

Minister Byrne was joined by the MHA for the District of Topsail, Elizabeth Marshall, and Fire Commissioner Fred Hollett to make the presentation in Kelligrews. Mayor Woodrow French of the Town of Conception Bay South, and Richard Murphy, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Fire Services and Conception Bay South Fire Chief, accepted the new vehicle on behalf of the municipality and fire department.

"Conception Bay South is experiencing significant growth and I am pleased the Provincial Government recognized the need for a better-equipped department to serve our residents and local businesses," said Mayor French. "The Town of Conception Bay South thanks Minister Byrne and the Provincial Government for their continued dedication to our community, and his great support of our local fire department. This truck is a welcomed addition to our fire response capability."

The new emergency vehicle is a 2007, 330-horsepower E-One Custom Pumper, with a 1,250-gallon per minute pump, 970-gallon water tank and a Class "A" foam system. The truck will be permanently stationed at the Kelligrews Fire Department.

Approximately $37 million has been allocated in support of the 2005-08 Multi-Year Capital Works Program. The province has an annualized commitment of $14.2 million in support of this program which was designed to fund larger scale infrastructure projects in larger communities that have the capacity to make a multi-year funding commitment.
