Town of Glovertown to Benefit from Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador
Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

The Town of Glovertown will undertake an extension to its municipal water and sewer system, thanks to the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).

The $220,576 project will allow the Town of Glovertown to extend the communitys water and sewer systems to 23 households on Terraview Drive, improving the quality of life for residents in that area of the community.

Canadas New Government is contributing $73,525, and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $88,966. The Town of Glovertown will fund the balance of $58,085.

"Canadas New Government is working with its partners to get things done for the people of Glovertown," said the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "With our investment of over $73,000, we are helping improve this communitys infrastructure and the quality of life of its families."

"We are pleased with the partnership with our federal and municipal counterparts to support this important water and sewer infrastructure improvement for the Town of Glovertown," stated Paul Oram, MHA for the District of Terra Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. "The installation of new municipal infrastructure will ensure residents have access to good quality water, and will secure water and sewer services for residents."

In addition to the connection of additional households to the towns water and sewer service, the town will also install two fire hydrants to provide increased fire protection.

"Once this project is completed, the homes on Terraview Drive will have their own separate service laterals, thus giving them adequate water volume and pressure," said Glovertown Mayor David Saunders. "Also, the homes will have better fire protection as hydrants will be installed as part of the project."

The Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador MRIF Agreement is cost-shared with municipalities and administered jointly by the Department of Municipal Affairs on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and ACOA, on behalf of Infrastructure Canada. Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, acting on behalf of communities, helps set the strategic direction of the agreement and identify priorities under the capacity-building component of the agreement.
