Human Resources, Labour and Employment November 15, 2007 The Government of Canada Helps People in N orthwesternNewfoundland and Labrador to Find Work The Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced that the Government of Canada will provide funding to help individuals in northwestern Newfoundland gain work experience, explore career options, and find work."The Government of Canada is committed to creating the best educated, most skilled, and most flexible work force in the world," said Minister Hearn. "These projects will help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who face barriers to employment get the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to find work.""Participants in these projects will gain a better understanding of their options in the labour market," said the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment for Newfoundland and Labrador. "This funding will help those who are looking to start a small business, gain work experience, or access local employment services." The over $700,000 in funding for the projects is provided through three programs. Under the Employment Assistance Services program: Through the Job Creation Partnership program: Through the Self-Employment Assistance program: These organizations will help more than 2,000 unemployed individuals-including Aboriginal people, youth, and people with developmental disabilities-prepare for, find, and keep good jobs. The employment services being offered include needs assessment, employment counselling, career-planning advice, job-search assistance, work experience, and business-plan development. These projects are examples of the many services funded through Service Canada to help people find jobs. Service Canada brings Government of Canada services and benefits together in a single delivery network. It provides Canadians with one-stop service they can access however they choose-by phone at 1 800 O-Canada, on the Internet at servicecanada.gc.ca, or in person at Service Canada Centres across the country. - 30 - Media contacts:
Employment Assistance Services The Employment Assistance Services (EAS) program supports projects aimed at helping insured participants gain the skills they need to find meaningful employment. Employment Assistance Services include providing clients with information about the labour market, help preparing r�sum�s, career-planning services, employment counselling, diagnostic assessment, help with job-search skills, job-finding clubs, and job-placement services.Job Creation Partnerships The Job Creation Partnerships employment benefit supports projects aimed at giving insured participants opportunities to gain meaningful work experience. At the end of the projects, clients will have recent work experience to add to their r�sum�s. This experience, together with the networking opportunities available while on a project, increases participants� chances of successfully finding long-term employment. Self Employment Assistance The Self Employment Assistance program supports projects aimed at helping insured participants gain the skills they need to become self-employed.
