Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

COMPONENT STUDY RECEIVED FOR PUBLIC REVIEW:

Terrestrial Environment Component Study                                      (Reg. 1243)
Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant Project
Proponent: Voisey's Bay Nickel Company

The proponent has submitted the required Terrestrial Environment Component Study to provide baseline data for the Environmental Impact Statement of this project. Included are sections that map vegetation and characterize wetlands over the area intended to be disturbed by this project. Also, there are surveys of wildlife (moose and small game) and wildlife habitat, rare plants (including the Boreal Felt Lichen), and avifauna (including land birds, waterfowl, gamebirds, and raptors). Public comments must be received not later than Wednesday, June 6, 2007. The minister will decide if this component study is acceptable no later than Wednesday June 20, 2007. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PLAN APPROVED:

St. Lawrence Wind Demonstration Project                                      (Reg. 988)
Proponent: The NeWind Group Inc.

The proponent has submitted the Environmental Protection Plan which was reviewed and has been approved by the minister.
