Parks Launch New Reservation System

Residents and visitors wanting to stay at any of the provinces 14 camping parks will soon have access to a new online reservation system that allows travellers to make their own reservations either online or by telephone.

"Many of our park users have been requesting a comprehensive reservation system with confirmed site availability," said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation. "With this new system, patrons can make long-term travel plans and reservations at campsites across the province and confirm a campsite will be available when they arrive at their park destination."

The minister noted that while the majority of provincial campsites (over 760) will be assigned to the reservation system, if a park patron arrives without a reservation, the individual may book a drop-in campsite if one is available. Over 200 drop-in campsites will be assigned on site by parks staff on a first-come, first-served basis. Park users are strongly encouraged to book campsites online or by calling the toll-free number. A person can make a reservation for a daily, monthly or a seasonal site. The maximum reservation period for a daily or drop-in site is seven days.

The online reservation system will be available at the following camping parks beginning:

  • May 1 Notre Dame, Blow Me Down, Frenchmans Cove and Pinware River
  • May 3 Barachois Pond, La Manche, Lockston Path,
  • J.T. Cheeseman and Sir Richard Squires Memorial
  • May 5 Butter Pot, Dildo Run, Pistolet Bay and Sandbanks
  • Toll Free: 1-877-214-CAMP (2267)       7:00 a.m. 11:30 p.m. daily
    Web site: www.NLCamping.ca            24 hours a day

"We want visitors and residents to have an enjoyable and memorable experience when they stay in our provincial parks," said Minister Jackman. "This new reservation system, along with governments commitment to improving and upgrading park infrastructure, is making our park system more attractive to visitors and travellers."

The new system was developed by Mediamix Interactive Inc. based in Ontario. The company was awarded the contract in 2006 when a public request for proposals was issued by the department. Mediamix also operates the reservation system for Parks Canada.
