Transportation and Works October 31, 2006 Minister Welcomes Provincial Representation on Marine Atlantic Board Newfoundland and Labrador will be well-represented on the board of directors of Marine Atlantic, says the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works. The federal Minister of Transportation and Works Lawrence Cannon, has appointed three residents of this province and two others with Newfoundland and Labrador backgrounds, to help steer the future of Marine Atlantic. "This ferry service is our link to the rest of Canada and it is essential that our province has a strong voice on the board of Marine Atlantic," said Minister Hickey. "I�m delighted that Minister Cannon appears to share the same point of view and I�m confident the concerns of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will be heard and addressed by this new board." Robert Crosbie of St. John�s was named chairman of the board and he is joined on the board by Stan Cook of St. John�s and Dr. Wayne Wheeler of Stephenville. Memorial University graduates Dianne Kelderman of Truro, Nova Scotia and Heather Tulk of Bedford, Nova Scotia round out the recent appointees. Minister Hickey also applauded Loyola Hearn, MP St. John�s South-Mount Pearl for his support for Newfoundland and Labrador representation throughout the process. -30- Media contact: |
