NOTE TO EDITORS: Signal Hill Tattoo travels to Halifax for anniversary ceremonies

Tom Hedderson, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, sends congratulations and best wishes to the Signal Hill Tattoo for being invited to participate in the 100th anniversary ceremonies marking the withdrawal of the last British Garrison from Canada in 1906. Known as the Changing of the Guard, the event takes place in Halifax, July 18-23.

This Grand Encampment will feature historic military animators from all over Canada, the United States and Great Britain. This event is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the Signal Hill Tattoo to participate in a Grand Encampment of this size.

As a result, the interpretation centre at Quidi Vidi Battery, Cuckholds Cove Road, St. Johns, will be closed from July 19-24. The four student animators who work at the provincial historic site will be traveling to Halifax with the Signal Hill Tattoo.

The Signal Hill Tattoo is one of the best and largest animation programs in Canada and one of the premier tourist attractions for this part of the province, said Minister Hedderson. Best wishes and safe travels to the group. We are very proud that you will be there to represent the province.

The Tattoo has won numerous awards over the years including the Canadian Heritage Award, the City of St. Johns Tourism Event of the Year Award, the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador Manning Award and was twice was named in the Top 100 Tourist Attractions in North America by the American Bus Association.
