Minister to attend official kick-off for 2006 International Rugby World Cup Qualifier in St. Johns

Tom Hedderson, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, will be speaking at the official kick-off of the promotional campaign for the 2006 International Rugby World Cup Qualifier tomorrow (Thursday, July 13) at the Signal Hill National Historic Site.

Amid the roar of the Tattoos cannons, Rod Snow of the Canadian National Senior Mens Rugby Team will kick a rugby ball in the direction of France to symbolize Team Canadas ultimate goal of winning the World Cup in 2007.

This event will mark the launch of a new campaign to generate publicity and interest in the International Rugby World Cup Qualifier taking place at the Swilers Club in St. Johns on August 12 when Team Canada and Team USA will battle it out on the field for the chance to play for gold at the 2007 World Cup in France. This will be the first time an international rugby game has ever taken place in the province.

The event takes place at 9:30 a.m. Media representatives are invited to attend.
