NOTE TO EDITORS: Minister to attend Canada Day events, encourages residents to celebrate Canada�s 139th Birthday  

Tom Hedderson, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, encourages all residents to get out and enjoy activities taking place in communities across the province this Canada Day weekend.  

To celebrate Canada�s 139th birthday Minister Hedderson will be participating in a several events.  He will start the day by serving pancakes at the Cupids Canada Day Breakfast, taking place in the Cupids Museum at 8:30 a.m.  The minister is pleased to report that this year he has been promoted to an �official waiter.�  This is a noteworthy step up from the �waiter-in-training� position he has held in past years.  

Following the breakfast, at 10:30 a.m., the minister will attend the flag raising ceremony at the Cupids Flag Site.  

At 1:00 p.m. the minister will represent the Premier at the official ceremony for the Confederation Hill Family Day.  This event will be in the lobby of the Confederation Building, East Block, hosted by the City of St. John�s and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.  There will be an official cake cutting and the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble will lead the audience in the singing of Happy Birthday, Canada .  

At 3:00 p.m. the minister is honoured to be taking the role of inspecting officer at the Signal Hill Tattoo at the Signal Hill National Historic Site.  

The minister would also like to note that due to Senator F. Gordon Bradley�s connection to Confederation, there will be Canada Day celebrations at the Mockbeggar Plantation provincial historic site in Bonavista.  

Mockbeggar Plantation was the home of Senator Bradley, Newfoundland �s first federal cabinet minister after Confederation.  The house was built in the 1870s and was restored to the 1939 period.  The celebration will start at 2:00 p.m.  

The Cape Shore Boys will provide musical entertainment at the garden party and there will be mural painting, races and games for children.  There will also be horseback rides along Mockbeggar Road .  A Canada Day cake and traditional cookies will be served.
