Finance October 18, 2006 Pre-Budget Consultations Begin Next Month
Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board the Honourable Loyola Sullivan will travel to many areas of the province throughout November and December as part of the pre-budget consultation process for Budget 2007. Meetings are open to individuals, groups and organizations who want to provide input to government on budget priorities.
�The face-to-face meetings are vital to a successful budget process and each year I look forward to hearing from individuals and organizations that come out to talk to me and my team,� said Minister Sullivan. �This sets the tone for the remainder of the process as government departments start to allocate their priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.�
The roundtable discussions are scheduled for Labrador City, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, St. Anthony, Corner Brook, Stephenville, Grand Falls-Windsor, Gander, Clarenville, and St. John�s. Those who would like to participate in a pre-budget consultation meeting in their area are requested to register at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled meeting by telephoning 709-729- 2611.
In addition to the roundtable discussions for the general public, Minister Sullivan will meet with representatives from the education and health boards to listen to their concerns first-hand.
�Education and health issues are very significant and we want to ensure we�ve given as much time and consideration as possible to those sectors when making budget decisions,� said the minister.
