Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

(1) Crown Districts 9 & 16 Five Year Forestry Plan (2007-2011)                                     (Reg. 1293)
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources

The proponent has submitted a Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management Districts 9 and 16 which are combined to form Planning Zone 7 as mandated by the new planning framework legislated by the Newfoundland Forest Service. Planning Zone 7 extends from Deer Lake in the west to Cat Arm in the north and includes all of the Baie Verte Peninsula. The Five Year Plan describes: past activities in the districts; the proposed allocation of wood supply and forest harvesting; silviculture; forest road construction; forest protection, environmental protection measures; and, monitoring and research activities from 2007 up to 2011. The undertaking was registered on September 18, 2006; public comments are due by October 24, 2006; and, the minister's decision is due by November 2, 2006.


The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Buchans Mink Farm (Resubmission)                                                        (Reg. 1270)
Proponent: Mr. Terry Byrne

The minister has released the above project from further environmental assessment review, subject to the following condition:

  • All farm development, including manure spreading and buildings must be located a minimum of 1.4 kilometres from the nearest residence/cabin. This condition would also apply to off-site manure disposal agreements.
