Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Buchans Wind Power Generation                              (Reg. 1277)
Proponent: Horizon Legacy

The proponent proposes to construct and operate 13 to 20 horizontal axis, three blade wind turbines and associated infrastructure to generate 25 megawatts of electrical power to the north of highway Route 370, approximately nine kilometres east of the town of Buchans. Overall height of the turbines from grade to height of blade would be approximately 90 to 100 metres. Power generated would be supplied to the Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro sub station at Buchans Brook. Associated infrastructure includes access roads, concrete foundations, transformers and overhead transmission lines. Construction is planned to commence in the late summer/early fall of 2007, with commissioning of the turbines by November 2008. The undertaking was registered on July 14, 2006; public comments are due by August 18, 2006; and the minister's decision is due by August 28, 2006.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
