Atlantic Conference on Climate Change and Health Impacts

The Departments of Environment and Conservation and Health and Community Services, in partnership with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Environment Canada, are hosting a two-day conference on climate change and health impacts from March 23-24 at the Delta Hotel, St. John�s.

This two-day conference will include sessions on a wide range of health concerns including temperature related morbidity and mortality, impacts of extreme weather events, air pollution related health impacts, water resource issues, adaptation of health sector to climate change, socio-economic impacts on community health, well-being and occupational health impacts of climate change and many more.

"It is important that we understand the risks associated with climate change in order to successfully prepare ourselves," said Minister Jackman. "In taking action to address climate change, government will continue to monitor potential impacts on public health and develop appropriate adaptation strategies."

"We hope this conference will bring more attention to the issue of climate change which is a serious concern globally and locally," said Minister Osborne. "Climate change has the potential to significantly impact the health of the people of this province both directly and indirectly, and we are acting now to develop strategies and share information that will mitigate the health impacts for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians."
