Minister provides extension to MV Apollo ferry service

Transportation and Works Minister Trevor Taylor today announced a five-day extension for the MV Apollo ferry service between St. Barbe, on the Northern Peninsula, and Blanc Sablon, Quebec. The seasonal service will now run until Sunday, January 8, 2006.

"The season has been extended by several days in past years, depending on the weather conditions, to accommodate the needs of local businesses and residents," Minister Taylor said. "The request was made again this year and we recognize the importance of ensuring the schedule of the Apollo is flexible enough to meet the needs of the people who rely on it."

The revised schedule coincides with the reopening of schools and post-secondary institutions after the Christmas break, and will provide transportation for teachers returning to their jobs and students to their studies.

The announcement of the extension is being made now to give businesses and residents ample time to make transportation arrangements, as well as coordinate the shipment of any goods and services they may require.
