Road projects
announced for Terra Nova District
Tom Rideout, Minister of
Transportation and Works, and Paul Oram, MHA for Terra Nova, today
announced road projects for the district. Funding for these projects
is made available under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement
Program.
Minister Rideout said: �A priority of our government is ensuring a
safe and reliable roads infrastructure. This year�s Provincial Roads
Improvement Program is valued at $48.7 million, including $3.7
million in carryovers from last year. To that end, I am pleased to
announce $600,000 in new funding for road work in Terra Nova
District.�
Planned projects for the district include:
- $190,000 to resurface sections
of Route 233 near Bunyans Cove;
- $72,000 to remove two blind
turns on Route 310 in Salvage;
- $78,000 to grade and apply
crushed gravel on approximately 6 kilometres of road through
Burnside and St. Chads;
- $65,000 to replace a culvert on
the Trans Canada Highway near Port Blandford;
- $60,000 to improve vertical
alignment, Cannings Cove;
- $50,000 to replace culverts in
Charlottetown;
- $30,000 to repair rutted asphalt
on the Trans Canada Highway at Thorburn Lake Access Road;
- $25,000 to repair approaches at
Salmon River Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway
- $20,000 to replace a culvert at
Eastport;
- $10,000 to repair bump on the
approach to E.S. Spencer Bridge.
�In late July, we announced upgrades
for sections of Route 230 that run through my district of Terra
Nova,� said Mr. Oram. �The improvements announced today are
certainly welcome additions to this work. The work that will be
undertaken will increase road safety for all travelers.�
�Our government recognizes the value of our roads infrastructure. We
will continue to make strategic investments to improve our highways
and create economic growth for the benefit of all Newfoundlanders
and Labradorians,� said Minister Rideout.
