Minister announces awarding of
contract for road work in Bonavista South
Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and
Works, and Roger Fitzgerald, MHA for Bonavista South and Deputy Speaker, today
announced that J-1 Construction Limited has been awarded a contract to complete
road projects in Bonavista South District. These projects are funded under the
2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.
J-1 Construction Limited, Clarenville, has been awarded a contract valued at
$2,683,824 to complete the following projects throughout the district:
- Upgrading and repaving approximately 1.0 km
of Route 230 near Bread Pond;
- Upgrading and repaving approximately 1.6 km
of Route 230-24 through Melrose;
- Upgrading and repaving approximately 0.8 km
of Route 238-10, North Side Road, in Elliston;
- Upgrading and repaving approximately 3.2 km
of Route 235 between Birchy Cove and Bonavista;
Upgrading and repaving approximately 3.0 km of Route 235 at Amherst Cove;
- Upgrading and repaving approximately 4.2 km
of Route 235-17 from Open Hall to Red Cliff;
- Upgrading and repaving approximately 2.0 km
of Route 235 at Plate Cove;
- Repair of frost bumps on Route 230 near
Melrose;
- Culvert installations on Route 230-26 at
Little Catalina, Route 238 near Elliston and Route 235-29 at Birchy Cove.
Minister Rideout said, �I am very pleased that
government has been able to allocate sufficient funding to perform necessary
road work in the Bonavista South District. Our government is committed to
addressing the issues that currently face our transportation infrastructure, and
by undertaking a roads program valued at $48.7 million, including $3.7 million
in carryovers, we have been able to make significant strides toward
accomplishing this goal.�
�I am delighted that the road work projects allocated for Bonavista South will
be commencing shortly,� said Mr. Fitzgerald. �Government has invested a
significant amount of funding into the Provincial Roads Improvement Program,
which the residents of my district will soon benefit from.�
Minister Rideout said, �We will continue to invest strategically into programs
such as the Provincial Roads Improvement Program in an effort to revitalize the
province�s roads as much as it is fiscally possible to do so.�
