Road work announced for Lewisporte District

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and MHA for Lewisporte District, today announced roads projects for Lewisporte District valued at $2.61 million under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvements Program.

Minister Rideout said, "In Budget 2005 government allocated significant monies to the provincial road network. This year�s program provides funding for a number of upgrades and improvements, ensuring that road users in this province have access to a safe and reliable transportation infrastructure. Work will include the resurfacing of major trunk roads, and upgrades to community access and local roads."

Planned projects for Lewisporte District include:

  • $1,100,000 for upgrading from Stanhope Intersection to Brown�s Arm, Route 341;
  • $500,000 funding for repairs to Route 341 between Lewisporte and Stanhope;
  • $250,000 funding for improvements to Porterville Road;
  • $200,000 funding for replacement of Ferry Brook Bridge, Route 351, Norris Arm, including a culvert;
  • $170,000 funding for resurfacing of Masons Cove Road, Embree;
  • $100,000 for maintenance to Burnt Arm Road in Laurenceton;
  • $100,000 for improvements in Campbellton, cost-shared with the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs and the Town of Campbellton;
  • $50,000 funding for the replacement of two culverts on Route 340;
  • $50,000 funding resurfacing of section of road at Norris Arm;
  • $50,000 funding for upgrades to Trail Avenue in Brown�s Arm;
  • $40,000 funding for upgrading of Ball�s Road in Laurenceton.

"These projects will benefit all residents in the Lewisporte District and will make a significant investment toward developing the tourism industry in the Lewisporte region," said the minister and MHA. "Improved roads increase visitors to the area, generate revenue and create employment opportunities."
