Road work announced for
Labrador West District
Tom Rideout, Minister of
Transportation and Works, today announced road projects for the Labrador
West District. The funding for these projects is made available under
the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.
Minister Rideout said, Government has an ongoing commitment to improved
transportation in Labrador. We continue to make infrastructure
improvements in recognition of the pivotal role that Labrador plays in
the future well-being of our province. To that end, I am pleased to
announced planned road work for the Labrador West District.
In the Labrador West District, government plans to resurface sections of
Route 500 between Labrador City and the Newfoundland and Labrador and
Quebec border. This work is valued at $500,000.
In Budget 2005, government invested significant new money for Labrador
initiatives and allocated significant monies to the provincial road
network. The Provincial Roads Improvement Program is valued at $33.7
million, including $3.7 million in carryover work from last year. This
is indicative our governments commitment to our roads infrastructure.
Providing Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, as well as visitors to this
province, with a safe and reliable road infrastructure is a
responsibility that our government takes very seriously, said the
minister. Our government is committed to the development of our roads
infrastructure in Labrador as this will result in benefits for the whole
province.
