Humber East District
to benefit from roads program
Tom Rideout, Minister of
Transportation and Works, and Tom Marshall, MHA for Humber East,
Minister of Justice and Attorney General, and Minister responsible
for Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced road projects for the
district.
Minister Rideout said, In Budget 2005, government allocated
significant monies to the provincial road network and I am pleased
to announce an allocation of $500,000 in new funding for the Humber
East District. This funding is made available under the 2005-06
Provincial Roads Improvement Program.
Planned projects for the district include the construction of a
connection from Massey Drive Emergency Access Road to Corner Brook
Ring Road, a project anticipated to cost $500,000.
Minister Marshall said, Connecting the Massey Drive Emergency
Access Road to the Corner Brook Ring Road will increase public
safety and make the area far more accessible for residents, tourists
and business travelers. This $500,000 investment illustrates
governments commitment to providing reliable infrastructure
throughout the province.
Road work creates employment opportunities and an improved
transportation system will promote safety, said Minister Rideout.
With our department maintaining over 9,500 km of primary, secondary
and community roads throughout the province, our government
recognizes the need for investing in our highway infrastructure.
Over the past year and a half, our government has made significant
investments in developing both urban and rural areas of the
province. The Provincial Roads Improvement Program is another
example of how our government is committed to revitalizing our
province.
