New maintenance office and garage
for Corner Brook
Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and
Works, and Premier Danny Williams, MHA for Humber West, today announced that a
contract has been awarded for the construction of a new maintenance office and
garage in Corner Brook.
Tech Construction Limited, of Corner Brook, has been awarded a contract valued
at over
$555,000, for the construction of new maintenance garage and office depot on
Lundrigan Drive, in the Country Road Industrial Park, Corner Brook.
"A new office and garage is required to position staff responsible for the south
shore of the Bay of Islands and Trans Canada Highway, in the immediate Corner
Brook area," said Minister Rideout. "The Wild Cove location will continue to be
used for road crews servicing the north shore of the Bay of Islands, during
winter.
"The construction of this facility will improve operations on the west coast and
result in better service to the traveling public. Our government strives to
provide the best service possible to our residents and the construction of this
facility will assist in the delivery of road maintenance."
Premier Williams said, "A part of our plan to move forward on the path to
self-reliance is ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of the services
provided by our government. The construction of this facility will result in
improved service delivery by bringing some of our maintenance equipment closer
to the area it serves. The project will also generate economic activity in the
region."
The tendered design is for a two-bay garage, with an attached office and
lunchroom area. The construction of the facility is to begin in the spring of
2005.
