Canada Games baseball team embarks on two-week training camp

The Newfoundland and Labrador Canada Games Baseball team is set to depart St. Johns for a two-week training camp that will be highlighted with a 10-day stop in Florida. The team departs St. Johns Thursday, June 23 and makes their first stop in Halifax to play in the Dartmouth AAA invitational tournament. All four Atlantic Canada Games teams will be competing in the weekend tournament.

On June 27 the team will then make their way to Orlando, Florida where they will play high school and junior teams throughout the Orlando area. The highlight of the trip will be the opportunity for the players to play at the Disney Complex which the Atlanta Braves call home during Major League Baseballs spring training.

In total the team will play 16-18 games in the two-week period. Head coach Troy Croft says, For most of these players it will be an opportunity of a lifetime. To have the opportunity to play that many games in such a short period of time will certainly increase each players skill level along with the opportunity to play against some quality competition prior to the Canada Games in August. The team returns from the trip Thursday, July 7, 2005.
