at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:
Sport Newfoundland and Labrador today announced the finalists for
their Annual Awards Program. Announcements of the winners will take
place at the annual awards banquet set for Saturday, April 2 in St.
John�s.
Tickets for the banquet are on sale at the Sport Newfoundland and
Labrador office for $20.00 each.
This year 60 nominations were received from the provincial sport
organizations for the seven awards. Members of the sports media
around the province vote on the awards.
The Margaret Davis Memorial Award is presented to the Provincial
Junior Female Athlete of the Year. The finalists for 2004 are
Harbour Main�s Brittany Dalton of basketball, swimmer Laura Murray
and Ashley Peach of rowing both from St. John�s.
The Joe Mullins Memorial Award is presented to the Provincial Junior
Male Athlete of the Year. The finalists for 2004 are cyclist Zachery
Garland of St. John�s, St. John�s native, Adam Paul of rugby and
skater Joey Russell of Labrador City.
The Elizabeth Swan Memorial Award is presented to the Provincial
Senior Female Athlete of the Year. The finalists for 2004 are St.
Brides native, Jenine Brown of basketball, rower Amanda Hancock of
St. John�s and Julia Howard of athletics, also of St. John�s.
The Ferd Heyward Memorial Award is presented to the Provincial
Senior Male Athlete of the Year. The finalists for 2004 are curler
Bas Buckle of Corner Brook, swimmer George Colbert of Mount Pearl
and St. Lawrence soccer player Clinton Edwards.
The Edward Browne Memorial Award is presented to the Provincial Team
of the Year. The finalists for 2004 are the Bas Buckle Curling Team,
the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Senior Rowing Team and the
Rock Rugby Team.
The Graham Snow Memorial Award is presented to the Provincial
Executive of the Year. The finalists for 2004 are St. John�s native
Greg Bowden of rowing, Burin�s Judi Kelloway of soccer and St.
John�s native Mel Osmond of five pin bowling.
The John Drinkwater Memorial Award is presented to the Provincial
Coach of the Year. The finalists for 2004 are Mount Pearl�s Scott
Betts of soccer, rugby�s Pat Parfrey of St. John�s and rowing�s Paul
Power of St. John�s.
