Districts of Bellevue, Bonavista
North, Placentia and St. Mary�s and Ferryland
to receive $512,600 through Community Enhancement Program
Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, today
announced approvals valued at $512,600 for proposals submitted under the
Community Enhancement Program.
"This funding will assist many residents
throughout Newfoundland and Labrador who require opportunities for short-term
employment," stated Minister Byrne. "But these projects also assist to develop
and improve the infrastructure of these communities. We will continue to work
with MHAs and community leaders to best distribute this funding for short-term
job creation and long-term community enhancement."
Proposals approved for the District of the
Straits and White Bay North total $260,000 and include:
$78,000 to the Town of Roddickton to
refurbish municipal swimming pool;
$22,500 to Rising Sun Developers Inc. for
clean up and maintenance work;
$32,500 to the Town of Flowers Cove for work
on Straits Fire Department;
$70,000 to White Bay Central Development
Association for work on community projects;
$5,000 to the Local Service District of
Anthony Bight for extension of trail;
$12,500 to the Town of St. Lunaire-Griquet
for trail construction;
$6,000 to the Local Service District of Ship
Cove for brush cutting;
$8,000 to the Town of Raleigh for town
repairs;
$10,000 to the Wild Bight Development
Committee to construct tourist info and community centre;
S15,500 to the Local Service District of
Straitsview to upgrade trail;
Proposals approved for the District of Bellevue
value $135,400 and include:
$14,000 to the Fortune Bay East Development
association for brush cutting;
$6,000 to the St. Paul�s Anglican Church
Hall for upgrade and repairs;
$6,000 to the Town of Terrenceville for
improvements to playground;
$13,400 to the Town of Arnold�s Cove for
enhancement to walking/hiking trails;
$4,000 to the Town of Bay L�Argent for
repairs to slipway and upgrade;
$6,000 to the Local Service District of
North Harbour for renovations to community centre;
$4,000 to the Town of Come By Chance to
promote active living and prepare emergency plan;
$6,000 to the Town of Southern Harbour for
improvements to recreation building and heritage house;
$25,000 to the Isthmus Development
Association to upgrade hiking trails, fire hall and slipway;
$4,000 to the Local Service District of
Thornlea for brush cutting and pump house repair;
$4,000 to the Local Service District of
Garden Cove to construct walking trail;
$5,000 to St. Barnabas Church to upgrade
Church Hall;
$6,000 to the Town of English Harbour East
and Grand Le Pierre for repairs to retaining walls, offices and community;
$6,000 to the Town of Chance Cove to
renovate council and fire hall;
$6,000 to the Town of Long Harbour and Mount
Arlington Heights to improve garage salt/storage shed;
$20,000 to Trinity Placentia Development
Association to improve tourism infrastructure.
Proposals approved for the District of Bonavista
North total $93,700 and include:
$23,700 to the Local Service District of
Main Point/Davidsville to construct fire bay and brush cutting;
$23,000 to Indian Bay Snowmobile and ATV
Club for ATV trail, road upgrades and brush cutting;
$23,000 increase to Cape Freels Development
Association for various projects;
$12,000 to Deadman�s Bay Local Service
District for renovations to fire hall;
$12,000 to Harbour Authority of Ladle
Cove/Aspen Cove for property repairs.
Proposals approved for the District of Placentia
& St. Mary�s total $5,500 and include:
$5,000 to the Town of St. Shott�s for
repairs to hall and community clean-up;
$500 to the Town of St. Vincents-St.
Stephen�s-Peter�s River for improvements to town infrastructure.
Proposals approved for the District of of
Ferryland:
$18,000 to the Tors Cove Recreation
Committee for painting church and hall and community clean-up.
