$161,000 in funding support announced under Crab Workers Support Program

The Department of Municipal Affairs today provided an update on projects approved under the provinces Crab Workers Support Program, and announced $161,000 in funding approvals.

�The majority of applications being submitted under the Crab Workers Support Program are for additional funding for previously approved projects,� stated Minister Jack Byrne. �The demand has been significantly lower than anticipated, however the program has exceeded expectations in terms of the quality and variety of community projects that are being completed. We are pleased with the cooperation and support of groups applying for funding, as well as workers participating in the projects who are gaining employment hours, but also contributing to enhancing buildings, sites and facilities which benefit communities where projects are taking place.�

New projects total $16,100 include the following:

  • $4,100 to Carbonear Masonic Lodge in support of renovations to kitchen, bathrooms and exterior;
  • $2,100 to Harbour Grace Immaculate Conception Parish for general maintenance on property;
  • $2,100 to Raleigh Fire Department for garage door repairs, and work on roof and fire station;
  • $2,100 to Salmon Cove Perry�s Cove Fire Department to community centre enhancement and general repairs;
  • $5,700 to Wabana in support of waster disposal and playground upgrade.

Additionally, $144,600 has been approved to provide increased funding support for previously approved projects located in Badger�s Quay, Bay Roberts, Bonavista, Brighton, Brigus, Bryant�s Cove, Carbonear, Clarke�s Beach, Comfort Cove-Newstead, Deadman�s Bay, Englee, Fogo Island, Freshwater, Harbour Grace, Heart�s Content, Joe Batt�s Arm, Lamaline, Leading Tickles, Little Bay Islands, Marysvale, Pilley�s Island, Nipper�s Harbour, Point May, Robert�s Arm, Raleigh, Salmon Cove, Seldom, Small Point-Broad Cove-Black Head-Adam�s Cove, St. Lawrence, St. Lewis, St. Vincent�s-St. Stephen�s-Peter�s River, Summerford, Too Good Arm, Triton, Upper Island Cove, and Winterton.
