$324,000 in Community Enhancement Program funding
 awarded to districts of Burgeo & La Poile, Twillingate & Fogo, and Torngat Mountains

Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs today announced approvals valued at $324,000 for proposals submitted under the Community Enhancement Program.

�Government remains committed to initiatives such as the Community Enhancement Program which will assist with the growth and development of communities throughout the province,� stated Minister Byrne. �The scope of the proposals being submitted is impressive, and the projects included in this group of approvals will help communities further develop tourist sites, improve safety through work on trails and roads, and enhance the natural beauty of the province. The value of this work cannot be underestimated; the projects will assist residents through gain of employment and will benefit communities through the diversity of work initiatives which offer improvements to community infrastructure.�

Proposals approved for the District of Burgeo & La Poile value $171,500 and include:

  • $10,000 to Rose Blanche Lighthouse Inc. in support of museum renovations;
  • $30,000 to Burgeo Recreation Commission to install insulation and work on dressing room;
  • $10,000 to Town of Rose Blanche-Harbour le Cou to upgrade and repair trails;
  • $25,000 to Burnt Islands Economic Development Board to install fence around softball field;
  • $10,000 to Cape Ray Local Service District to build kiosk for residents and tourists;
  • $60,000 to Town of Channel-Port aux Basques to support replacement of winter salt/sand shd;
  • $10,000 to Local Service District of La Poile to work on water main and construct garbage boxes;
  • $16,500 to Margaree-Fox Roost Harbor Authority to support repairs to bait shed.

Proposals approved for Twillingate & Fogo value $90,000 and include:

  • $5,000 to Moreton�s Harbour Local Service District to upgrade tourist picnic area;
  • $5,000 to Town of Change Islands to support road shoulder and gravel road repair;
  • $5,000 to Merrit�s Harbour Local Service District for water line and road maintenance;
  • $5,000 to Local Service District of Valley Pond to support extension to Valley Road Community Hall;
  • $10,000 to the Town of Summerford for brush cutting;
  • $5,000 to Twillingate Masonic Lodge #7 to support lodge repairs;
  • $10,000 to the Town of Joe Batt�s Arm-Barr�d Islands and Shoal Bay for town hall renovation and trail development;
  • $5,000 to Local Service District of Fairbank/Hillgrade to upgrade water system and brush cutting;
  • $5,000 to Fogo Town Council for brush cutting;
  • $5,000 to the Local Service District of Cobb�s Arm for brush cutting;
  • $5,000 to Twillingate-New World Island Development Association to support installation of washroom facilities at Loyal Orange Lodge;
  • $5,000 to Too Good Arm Recreation Committee for construction of lookout, walkway and trail;
  • $5,000 to Local Service District of Carter�s Cove-Virgin Arm and Parkview for brush cutting;
  • $5,000 to Hillgrade East Wharf Committee for renovations to wharf and area;
  • $5,000 to Fogo Island Regional Council for restoration of old school house.

Proposals approved for Torngat Mountains total $62,500 and include:

  • $41,100 to the Town of Rigolet to clear and clean-up cemeteries and repair fences;
  • $21,400 to the Town of Postville for various projects.
