New project approvals
announced for Crab Worker Support Program
The Department of Municipal and
Provincial Affairs today provided an update with regard to increased
and new funding for projects which have been approved under the Crab
Worker Support Program.
�This program continues to provide support, needed employment
assistance and has introduced meaningful projects for crab industry
workers in the province,� stated Minister Jack Byrne. �The success
of projects has led to increases in funding to further expand or
extend a number of projects which will be of considerable benefit to
communities. We continue to process applications as they are
submitted, and remain committed to ensuring workers have access and
opportunity to work on initiatives in their communities while
earning the employment assistance that they require.�
New projects and increases to funding approved total approximately
$100,500 and include:
- $1,000 increase to Badger's Quay
Cape Freels Development Association to support work on the fire
hall and river wall (total projects for community $31,100);
- $3,400 to Bay de Verde for
tourism and community upgrade;
- $3,400 increase to Bay de Verde
in support of work to hiking trials,
- azebo, fencing, clean-up and
painting (total projects for community $8,800);
- $1,000 increase to Bay Roberts
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #32 for painting and general
repairs to the Legion Building (total project $3,100);
- $6,200 increase to Black Tickle
in support of community clean-up (total projects for community
$125,000);
- $2,100 increase to Bryant's Cove
for general municipal maintenance and upgrades (total project
value $4,700);
- $1,600 increase to Carbonear in
support of upgrade to the war memorial park (total project value
$39,700);
$4,100 increase to Chang Islands for trail development and town
repairs (total project value $6,200);
- $4,100 to Clarke's Beach in
support of various projects;
- $12,400 increase to Comfort
Cove-Newstead to replace boardwalk, and support work on bird
sanctuary and gazebo (total project value $68,100);
- $1,000 increase to Deadman's Bay
to construct access road to beach (total project value $12,400);
- $3,100 to Dildo Society of
United Fisherman Lodge #84 in support of various projects
including work on the lodge grounds;
- $2,100 increase to Englee to
upgrade and renovate municipal building (total project value
$10,900);
- $1,000 increase to Fermeuse in
support of walking trail (total project value $18,200);
- $4,100 increase to Grates Cove
Cabot Rock Heritage for fishing stages and cookhouse (total
projects value $51,300);
- $2,100 increase to Greenspond in
support of walking trail construction (total project value
$38,400);
$2,100 to Keels in support of maintenance projects in community;
- $10,400 increase to Lewisporte
Area Development Association in support of new community centre
(total project value $37,000);
- $2,600 increase to Little St.
Lawrence Harbour Authority to paint community stage and road
repairs (total project value $13,500);
- $1,300 to McKay's Bay St. George
South Area Development Association in support of various
projects;
- $2,100 to Merritt's Harbour in
support of repair to community infrastructure;
- $2,100 to Nipper's Harbour in
support of renovations to town hall and hiking trail;
- $1,000 increase to Old Perlican
in support of maintenance to community centre, recreation
complex and museum (total project value $17,600);
- $2,600 increase to Perry's Cove
Celebration Committee Inc. to upgrade recreational facilities
(total project value $23,900);
- $2,100 increase to Robert's Arm
in support of renovations to public buildings (total project
value $22,800);
- $4,100 increase to St. Anthony
Harbour Authority of Goose Cove for repairs to fisherman's shed
(total project value $10,300);
- $4,600 to St. Lawrence Area
Trail Association Inc. to upgrade existing ATV and snowmobile
trail(total project value $52,400);
- $2,100 increase to St.
Vincent's-St. Stephen's-Peter's River in support of fishermen's
museum and fire department (total project value $4,100);
- $3,100 increase to Triton in
support of maintenance to town buildings and various projects
(total project value $142,200);
- $1,600 increase to Upper Island
Cove Come Home Year Committee for construction of playground,
landscaping and fencing (total project value $12,500);
- $2,600 increase to Western Bay
North Shore Regional Development Association for repairs to
various community facilities (total project value $79,000);
- $3,400 to Witless Bay Kinsmen
Club in support of repairs to Kinsmen Centre.
