Crab Worker Support Program
project approvals continue
The Department of Municipal and Provincial
Affairs today announced new projects in support of the Crab Worker Support
Program valued at approximately $351,400. To date, projects totaling
approximately $1.9 million in support of the Fortune and Crab Income Support
Programs have received approval. Government has received 1,516 applications from
crab industry workers looking for employment and placed 1,347 to work, totaling
4,944 weeks of employment.
�With this program, crab industry workers
requiring employment assistance have been provided the opportunity to gain
much-needed work, and are helping to improve community infrastructure which will
have long-term benefit to residents of the province,� stated Minister Jack
Byrne. �We are pleased that groups continue to submit diverse, quality projects
and are encouraged by the level of cooperation and patience that has been shown
by workers and groups in working to move this initiative forward in a positive
manner.�
Projects approved and those which received
increases to funding include:
- increase of $1,600 to the Cape Freels
Development Association in Badger�s Quay for property restoration and
repair;
- $6,700 to Bay Bulls Minor Soccer Association
to support improvements to field;
- $2,000 increase to Bay de Verde in support
of maintenance to hiking trails, gazebo, and fencing;
- $3,600 increase to Black Tickle in support
of community clean-up;
- $12,700 increase to Bonavista to assist with
clean-up of beaches;
- $4,100 increase to Brighton for a walking
bridge;
- $7,800 to Calvert Hall Committee to assist
with repair and upgrade of community centre;
- $3,600 increase to Cape Broyle to install
boardwalk;
- $2,600 to Freshwater for trail widening and
community clean-up;
- $43,600 to Gaskiers-Point La Haye to upgrade
local roads;
- 6,200 increase to Grates Cove for
construction of fishing stages and cookhouse;
- $5,200 to Lewisporte Area Development
Association for brush cutting, clean-up of municipal park;
- $32,200 increase to Little Catalina to work
on new playground;
- $2,000 increase to Little St. Lawrence for
playground renovations;
- $2,100 to Main Point �Davidsville to assist
with construction of new fire bay;
- $4,100 increase to Mary�s Harbour to repair
tourism sites and cemeteries;
- $30,000 increase to Musgrave Harbour in
support of boardwalk construction;
- $21,200 to Perry�s Cove Celebration
Committee Inc. to upgrade walking trails and recreational facilities;
- $4,100 increase to Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove
for municipal clean-up;
- $4,100 increase to Pilley�s Island in
support of repairs to community buildings;
- $10,400 to Riverhead to upgrade local roads;
- $6,200 increase to Robert�s Arm to support
renovations to public buildings;
- $19,700 to Small Point-Broad Cove-Black
Head-Adam�s Cove to support trail enhancement;
- $10,400 to South River for recreational and
beautification infrastructure development;
- $4,100 to Spaniard�s Bay Harbour Authority
for office maintenance;
- $6,200 to St. Mary�s Bay Pond View Senior
Citizens Club to enlarge kitchen area, community hall;
- $5,200 to St. Vincent�s-St.
Stephen�s-Peter�s River for upkeep and repairs to cemetery;
- $16,600 to Trepassey Management Corporation
to restore municipal structure and road signage;
- $48,200 increase to Triton for maintenance
of town buildings and various projects;
- $2,100 increase to Victoria for renovations
of various buildings;
- $17,600 to Western Bay North Shore Regional
Development Association in support of repairs to various community
facilities;
- $5,200 increase to Winterton for garage, and
repairs and siding to boat building museum.
