NLIS 1 April 6, 2005 (Municipal and Provincial Affairs) Over $4.4 million offered to Marystown under Multi-Year Capital Works Agreement Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, and Clyde Jackman, MHA for the District of Burin-Placentia West, announced today that $4.458 million has been offered to the Town of Marystown under the Multi-Year Capital Works Agreement. "I am very pleased that we have entered into Multi-Year Capital Works Agreement with the Town of Marystown," said Minister Byrne. "This program is extremely beneficial for municipalities for their long-term planning in addressing their infrastructure needs. Having quality infrastructure is important to the viability of our province�s municipalities." MHA Clyde Jackman said: "This is the first time the Town of Marystown has entered into a Multi-Year Capital Works Agreement with the province. By entering into this agreement, the town will have three years to complete its infrastructure improvements. I know that this will lead to significant improvements to services for residents." "We have identified this funding for roads and water and sewer projects," said Sam Synard, Mayor of Marystown. "I am very pleased that the town will be able to carry out these much-needed projects for our residents. The Multi-Year Capital Works Program allows us to plan comprehensively the work that needs to be done in Marystown." The provincial government has committed $85 million under the 2005-2008 Multi-Year Capital Works Program. This program is cost-shared on a 50/50 basis between provincial and larger municipal governments. In total, combined with the Municipal Capital Works Program and the Canada-Newfoundland Infrastructure Program, governments have committed $140 million for municipal infrastructure. It is estimated that these programs will create approximately 90,000 person weeks of employment throughout the province. Media contact:
