Minister welcomes delegates for
the
87th Annual Meeting of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada
Tom Marshall, Minister of Justice and Attorney
General and Minister responsible for Intergovernmental Affairs, said today he is
pleased to welcome delegates to St. John's for the 87th Annual Meeting of the
Uniform Law Conference of Canada.
"This years conference has not only attracted delegates from Canada, but from
the United States and Mexico. It is a pleasure to welcome all of these delegates
to Newfoundland and Labrador," Minister Marshall said. "I know conference
organizers have developed a heavy business and social agenda, however, I
encourage delegates to experience as much of our wonderful province as
possible."
"For eighty-seven years the uniform law conference has been facilitating and
promoting the harmonization of provincial/territorial laws to benefit
Canadians," Minister Marshall continued. "After thirty years practicing
commercial law, I understand the importance of harmonizing
provincial/territorial law. I applaud the work that the conference has completed
to date, especially in its Commercial Law Strategy. It has a direct impact on
the prosperity of our citizens and on the rights of all Canadians as set out in
the Charter of Rights and Freedoms."
Minister Marshall added: "I would also like to congratulate my colleague Mr.
Chris Curran on a very successful year as President of the Uniform Law
Conference. He has displayed tremendous leadership and dedication in advancing
the mandate of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada and in facilitating
uniformity in Canadian law."
The 87th Annual Meeting of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada takes place
August 21st to 25th at the Delta Hotel in St. John's, NL. "I wish delegates
every success in their work throughout the week," said Minister Marshall.
