Minister announces awarding of contract for road work in Trinity-Bay de Verde

Tom Rideout, Minister of Transportation and Works, and Charlene Johnson, MHA for Trinity � Bay de Verde, today announced that Concord Paving Limited has been awarded a contract to complete road projects throughout the district. Funding for these improvements is made available under the 2005-06 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

Concord Paving Limited, Carbonear, has been awarded a contract valued at $2,175,679 to complete the following projects throughout the district:

  • Recapping approximately 2.0 km through Western Bay;
  • Recapping approximately 2.6 km through Job�s Cove;
  • Recapping approximately 2.3 km through Grates Cove;
  • Recapping approximately 2.1 km at New Harbour Barrens;
  • Recapping approximately 1.5 km through Sibleys Cove-Lead Cove;
  • Recapping approximately 1.6 km through New Chelsea;
  • Replacement of culverts at Island Pond Brook, Islington.

Minister Rideout said: �Undertaking a roads program valued at $48.7 million, including carryovers, has been very rewarding for my department and residents throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. This represents an $18.7 million increase over the 2004-05 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

�A program of this magnitude has allowed government to address many of the most pressing infrastructure issues in all areas throughout the province. A significant portion of the program has been completed to date, and a number of remaining projects have commenced. To that end, I am pleased that this contract has been awarded, and that the residents of Trinity-Bay de Verde District will soon see the results of these road improvements.�

�I am very pleased that these projects have commenced,� said Ms. Johnson. �Soon the residents of Trinity-Bay de Verde will enjoy improved and safer traveling conditions resulting from an infrastructure investment of nearly $2.2 million.�

�Our government will remain committed to the transportation infrastructure throughout the province,� said the minister. �Over the past 20 months, we have made great strides toward ensuring the people of this province have high quality roads on which to travel. We will continue to invest in this infrastructure as it provides many tangible benefits for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.�
