Provincial government
contributing to Aquaculture Canada trade show
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will be involved in a
meaningful way in next months Aquaculture Canadas 2005 conference
and trade show, which is expected to draw hundreds of people from
all sectors of aquaculture and associated industries to St. Johns.
The provincial government is contributing $30,000 to the event and a
number of its employees will be key participants.
"We are looking forward to co-hosting Aquaculture Canadas trade
show. Government staff will be playing a vital role in organizing,
operating and participating in the event," said Trevor Taylor,
Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture. "The gathering will also be
another opportunity to attract potential investors. Weve been
taking strategic action to help sustain and grow the industry such
as developing a loan guarantee initiative for aquaculture
operations. Well certainly be promoting positive messages about our
pristine coastlines, our approach to sustainable development and our
enthusiasm about growing the industry."
This annual event is the national forum on the business, science and
technology of Canadian aquaculture. It will run from July 3 to 6, in
conjunction with the annual general meeting and trade show of the
Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA). Hundreds of
people from all sectors of aquaculture and associated industries are
expected to attend. The province also successfully hosted the show
in 1989 and 1998.
