New Chair of Public Service Commission appointed

Premier Danny Williams today announced the appointment of Ed Walsh as chair of the Public Service Commission (PSC), effective immediately.

Mr. Walsh is a highly respected career public servant with 26 years of experience, making him an ideal candidate for this position, said Premier Williams. I am pleased that he has agreed to accept this new role, and I am confident that he will live up to this challenge with the same dedication and professionalism he has demonstrated throughout his career. I wish him well with his new duties and responsibilities and welcome his continuing contribution to the public service in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Educated at Memorial University, Ed Walsh most recently served with the commission as director of staffing and compliance. In that position, he directed activities related to the protection of the merit principle and compliance with PSC policies and approved hiring protocols.

He has served as chairperson of a union management tribunal focused on grievance resolution and for three years as executive director of the Labour Force Council, a labour management cooperation initiative focused on labour force adjustment and organizational productivity. In a volunteer capacity, Mr. Walsh was the inaugural chair of the Board of Directors of RealTime Cancer.

Mr. Walshs extensive experience in human resource management and his involvement in the provision of services to all organizations within the public service and to individual employees, have provided him with the unique perspective and vision required in the chair of the Public Service Commission, Premier Williams said.
